Genshin Impact: In the Dwelling of Life Quest Walkthrough

Complete walkthrough for the In the Dwelling of Life quest in Genshin Impact, including all subquests, puzzles, and rewards.

The In the Dwelling of Life quest is a lengthy world quest in Genshin Impact that forms part of the Eye of Graeae storyline. It involves navigating tunnels, solving puzzles with the Grappling Gun and Prime Ice Construct, and facing off against Leshy and other enemies. This guide covers every subquest, from triggering the quest to claiming the final fragment.

To start, teleport to the Statue of the Seven in Flamefeather Valley, west of Morepesok. Head south to find The Anvil. Defeat him to begin the questline. For more on the latest Genshin Impact updates, check out our Genshin Impact news hub.

A Sprout Without a Gardener

After beating The Anvil, he mentions a stash in an abandoned tunnel. Follow the quest marker west until the objective changes to Clear the obstacle blocking the tunnel entrance. Use the Prime Ice Construct build menu to Remove the Grappling Gun blocking the way. Then explore the stash inside the tunnel: use the Grappling Gun to pull the Grappling Hook on a container, destroying it. Claim the Exquisite Chest and continue deeper until you meet a kid named Nastya. The mission updates to Open up the path to Okurov. With Nastya’s help, build another Grappling Gun to remove the blockade and proceed.

Transplanted From "Yesterday" to "Tomorrow"

Follow the quest marker to a station. To pass through with Nastya:

  • Build a Grappling Gun near the window to open a path inside.
  • Jump in and pull the lever by the counter to open the door for Nastya.
  • Go upstairs, outside, and detour to the other side.
  • Leap off the roof and pull the lever on the other side to open the second gate.

Nastya will then lead you to a game of hide-and-seek. Since only Nastya can move freely, simply follow her. Be prepared for Leshy attacks along the way. Eventually, you’ll meet two non-hostile Leshy, but a mysterious creature attacks, causing you to fall into the sewer. This starts the Down in the Dumps subquest.

Down in the Dumps

This is the longest subquest. Your goal is to escape the sewer. Steps:

  • Find a way out of the sewer.
  • Investigate the control room.
  • Collect three keycards (Red, Blue, White).
  • Open the control room door.
  • Explore ahead, ride the elevator, and return to the surface.

Use the Grappling Gun to move wooden planks, pick up the Red Key, then remove the Blue Key and White Key from their slots. Use all three to open the door. Inside, grab the Wheel and explore further to find the elevator.

Back on One’s Feet

After escaping the sewer, enter Ove’s house by climbing stacked boxes to the roof. Find an opening to enter. Inside, destroy two wooden boxes to reveal a basement. Use a Grappling Gun to clear a blockade, then pick up a Lever and return to open a gate. Inside, grab another lever and a Precious Chest. Be ready for a fight. Slide through an opening (you may need to build a Prime Ice Construct Cube to fit). Pick up the Control Wheel and leave the cellar. Regroup with Nastya and activate the elevator to end this subquest.

Forbidding Doors of Melancholy

This subquest requires you to access the assembly hall and find Nastya’s “home.”

Find a Way to Move the Curtain

Use Grappling Guns to pull the chandelier down, then remove the Grappling Gun to let it spring back up. Repeat until you reach a lever. Pull it when Paimon counts down to one.

Head to the Door Leading to Home

Build a Grappling Gun to pull a disk, then create a Cube to block its movement. Remove the Grappling Gun to lock the disk in place.

Investigate the Strange Room

Examine three spots in the room. You’ll get trapped. Help Nastya reach you, then use the item on the console that trapped you. This reveals a hidden path.

To Rest in a Forgotten Field

Continue along the path until you meet Zhara. Defeat them to proceed.

Chorus of Solace

Witness Nastya’s decision and claim the second part of the Eye of Graeae’s fragments. This completes the In the Dwelling of Life questline. The next part is the On One Side a Palace, On the Other a Tomb questline.

Troubleshooting

  • Stuck on the chandelier puzzle? Make sure you remove the Grappling Gun after pulling the chandelier down; otherwise it won’t spring back.
  • Can’t find the third keycard? The White Key is located on a high ledge; use the Grappling Gun to reach it.
  • Leshy keep respawning? They are part of the script; just keep moving forward.
