Genshin Impact: Scales and Calamitous Crystals Quest Guide

Overview

The Where Scales and Calamitous Crystals Remain quest is a Shadow Realm objective in Genshin Impact, set in Old Kitezhgrad. It is a direct follow-up to Through the Star-Piercing Valley, and completing it yields a substantial chest haul: two Luxurious chests and seven Precious chests.

For players tracking the latest genshin-impact guides, this quest is one of the more reward-dense side objectives in the Shadow Realm. The exact puzzle sequence is not detailed in the source material, so this guide focuses on prerequisites, confirmed rewards, and practical preparation.

Prerequisites

• Complete Through the Star-Piercing Valley first. The quest triggers immediately after that quest ends.
• Access to the Shadow Realm of Old Kitezhgrad. Not stated in official materials: any additional Adventure Rank or story gate beyond the prerequisite quest.
• No specific team composition is required by the source. Bring a comfortable exploration team with healing and crowd control for Shadow Realm encounters.

Step-by-Step

1. Finish Through the Star-Piercing Valley. The new quest should appear automatically.
2. Follow the quest marker into the Shadow Realm of Old Kitezhgrad.
3. Complete the objective chain as directed by the quest tracker. The source does not list individual puzzle steps, so rely on in-game markers.
4. Open every chest along the route. The confirmed total is two Luxurious and seven Precious chests.
5. Turn in the quest if a final dialogue step appears, then confirm the chest count in your inventory history.

Reward Summary

Reward Type	Count
Luxurious Chests	2
Precious Chests	7

Loadouts & Teams

No combat-specific loadout is mandated by the source. For efficient clearing in the Shadow Realm:

• Budget tier: Any leveled main DPS with a healer and a shielder. Prioritize survival over speed.
• Comfort tier: A ranged DPS plus grouping support to handle spread-out encounters.
• Optimal tier: Your strongest overworld team; the quest is exploration-focused, not a DPS check.

If you are also planning for the 7.2 cycle, see our Grand Defense event guide for reward planning alongside this quest.

Troubleshooting

• Quest not appearing: Confirm Through the Star-Piercing Valley is fully completed, including any epilogue dialogue.
• Missing chests: Re-walk the quest area after completion. The source confirms the total count but not individual chest locations.
• Shadow Realm access issues: Not stated in official materials. Check that the prerequisite quest chain is complete before retrying.
